Three British FIlms

The three British films I have chose to evaluate are The Kings Speech, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Now is Good.

Now is Good-

A girl dying of leukemia complies a list of things she’d like to do before passing away. With the help of her friend, she sets the list in motion, and explores a whole new world, determined to live every day as intensely as possible. Tessa ends up falling in love with Adam, her new neighbor, (which wasn’t on the list), however, this proves to be the most exhilarating experience of them all.

Released date- 19 September 2012
Directed by- Ol Parker
Stars- Dakota Fanning, Kaya Scodelario and Olivia Williams

Through the use of twitter pages, trailers and facebook pages, Now is Good has managed to attract audiences not just in Britain but also internationally. Now is Good has set up twitter pages, with people making hundreds of comments both applauding and critiquing the movie. This movie will tend to attract audiences interested in drama and romance because of its genre being a drama intertwined into a love story. Teenagers will also be attracted to the film because of Ol Parkers good use of selecting stars such as Dakota Fanning and Jeremy Irvine. Dakota fanning, having stared in many other films already has a fan base to support her. Ol parker did a good job in staring Jeremy Irvine in his film, as his good looks would attract to young females. Ol parker, too, was the producer of other international, and even global films such as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel AND Imagine Me and You. This could also attract a fan base for people who enjoy Ol Parkers work.

The Kings Speech-

The story of King George VI of Britain, his impromptu ascension to the throne and speech therapy, which helped, insure he become monarch worthy.

Director: Tom Hooper
Release Date: 7 January 2011
Stars: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham

Like Now is Good, The Kings Speech promotes the film by sharing trailers and information on social online sites such as facebook and its own official website. The Kings Speech, too has its own website in which fans can look at gallery pictures (still screen shots of scenes) and listen to the soundtrack from the film. Although The Kings Speech is a British Film, it has too become international in countries like the United States. It is hard to depict a certain audience, which would be attracted to this film, since it is open to such a wide variety of people. By having such a talented actor like Colin Firth play a star role in this film, it helps promote the film as he has a huge supported fan base. Also with him being in so many other versatile films, audiences will be confident in his performance of King George in The Kings Speech. Also by having an attractive man playing star role in the film, it helps invite the female audience. Viewers interested in Biography/ drama and history will be interested in this film, and therefore more chance they will see it. The only con about this movie is that the director isn’t as famously known for his work, and therefore might result in losses of audiences, as people may not be so familiar with his work.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower –
A modern classic that captures the dizzying highs and crushing lows of growing up and high school. It is a moving tale of love, loss, fear and hope of unforgettable friends that help us through life. An introvert freshman carries out these experiences as he is taken under the wings of two seniors who welcome him into the real world. As he gets closer to these one of these friends, he finds himself uncontrollably falling in love with the young lady.

Director: Stephan Chbosky
Release date- 3 October 2012
Stars: Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller

Many social online sits have been put up (Facebook, IMDb, and its own official website) to address to the media all the information/trailers/clips and pictures of the film. However there seems to be no official twitter site on the film. On the official site it allows and encourages you to read the book, look at the gallery, videos and fan comments. Interestingly enough, the author of the book is actually the person who too, directed the film. This, for some people could have been a turn of since Stephan may not be advanced and experienced in film production. The film is a drama/romance, encouraging people who enjoy that genre. Another important factor we can add that will help fan base, is that fact the Emma Watson has a staring role in the film. Both, male and female audiences respect Emma Watson, and it is through her great performances in other global films, such as the Harry Potter series, that she already has a supported fan base. This film will also attract young high school students, as they will be able to relate to this film, following the emotions and experiences of Charlie’s High school events.
