RESEARCH: ART OF THE TITLE

My first movie opening i choose is James Bond, Casino Royale. Like every James Bond film since 1962, the openings have started with the same trademark image: Bond standing at the end of a barrel with a gun. This image is part of the James Bond legend and is a cue for audiences to inch forward in their seats, ready for Bonds adventure to start. The opening credits focus on the imagery of gambling by displaying objects of cards, and gambling tables. Even the spades of hearts that is shot out of Bonds gun, instead of an actual bullet, emphasises this theme of gambling and playing. Other aspects of this opening that makes it so unique is the cartoon like characteristics it possesses. We see images of bond walking along a line of spades, with the king of spades watching him. Violence, which is another theme present in Casino Royale is carried out through the cartoon action figures that are fighting throughout the clip. Red and black are the two major colours that are present throughout the whole opening, with red being associated with the image of blood, and black as darkness and death. It is only until the end that we realise this black cartooned image that has almost been "following" us through the opening  is actually James Bond, himself. Light is shone from the corner of the screen and projected onto his face, turning it from a black cartooned image, to a real life form of himself. The music, too, is quite significant in this opening as it gives the audience a sense of agitation and excitement through its adventurous tone and atmosphere.
